Not sure if our local news ever gets reported outside of our area, but there have been confirmed cases of swine flu in San Antonio. Here are the details on the bigger new stories related to the swine flu:So... We are going to try to avoid public places.   Unfortunately, yesterday was the final day of Fiesta -- so for the last eleven days, there have been 3.5 million people attending over 100 events around our city (carnivals, concerts, parades, festivals, fund-raisers, exhibits, block parties, athletic events, banquets, and so on) all of which were places where a mysterious flu could easily spread.

I'm hoping the outbreak stays limited, but it has already reached 5 states in the US

coffee never tasted so good

I normally have a cup of coffee within 5 minutes of crawling out of bed, but not this morning.
I had to get some blood drawn this morning for some routine tests, and the lab requires that you fast for 10 hours or so prior to them drawing blood.    I got back home from the lab around 8:30 this morning and finally had a cup o' joe.    (So I'm finally starting to feel betterhuman.)

Not sure I understand the entire "fast prior" requirement --- seems like if they really wanted a sample of the  blood that was truly representative of what courses through my veins, they'd be far better off drawing blood after :
  • a few cups of coffee, a bowl of cereal, and a banana
  • a turkey and cheese sandwich, a handful of pretzels, a small salad, and several glasses of iced tea
  • a plate of barbecue ribs, a sweet tater, coleslaw, and a few pints of lager
Because honestly, I never willingly go 10+ hours without food.

I just received 6 "Friends and Family" coupons for $1200 off All-laser Lasik from the Eye Center  (locations in  Leesburg, Sterling, Alexandria and Fairfax).   They did my surgery 4 or 5 years ago, and I love, love, love not having to wear glasses or contacts anymore.

If you or someone you know is contemplating the surgery, let me know and I'll mail the first 6 requesters a coupon.  (coupons expire on 10/31/07)
