Bottle Shock (no spoilers, I promise!)

We went out to see Bottle Shock last night with the gang from Copa Wine Bar and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The movie stars Alan Rickman as a french wine snob who owns a struggling wine store and Bill Pullman as a struggling California vintner, and it also has some solid supporting actors, including Freddy Rodriguez and Dennis Farina.  I haven't made up my mind about the actor (Chris Pine) who plays the vintner's son.  It may have just been that I didn't like the character he played though -- either way, hopefully he'll do a great job when he plays James Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek movie.

There are some fantastic panoramic shots of Napa Valley, and they do a great job of capturing the mid-70s, but beyond that, Bottle Shock is a character-driven movie that is based on a true story.    If you like quirky characters in a comedic drama, you'll probably enjoy it.   If, on the other hand, you only go to the theater to see killer car chases, massive explosions, stunning special effects or gratuitous sex scenes, you'll most likely be disappointed.

I don't make it out to very many movies, but this one looks promising and Michelle Pfeiffer looks awesome --- awesomely bad and awesomely good. If that doesn't make sense, watch the trailer.
